Education / Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred but will consider candidates with Associate degree. Minimum 2 years supervisory experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in managing Zoysia, A1/A4 Bent Grass, and Fescue cool season rough in a midwestern transition zone environment. Maintain a valid Driver’s License.
Certifications: GCSAA member in good standing Current Missouri pesticide applicators license or the ability to secure one within 90 days of employment

Each year, Highland Springs has the privilege of hosting the acclaimed Price Cutter Charity Championship PGA golf tournament on the Web.com Tour. Since the tournament’s inception in 1990, the Price Cutter Charity Championship has made a significant impact on the lives of children throughout the Ozarks. The tournament has raised more than $15.6 million for local children’s charities.

Location: Highland Springs Country Club is the focal point of the exclusive, 600-acre master-planned Highland Springs Community located just minutes from Springfield via easy access by four-lane U.S. 60, U.S. 65 and the James River Freeway. Golfing at Highland Springs: The centerpiece of the Highland Springs Community is the 18-hole, par 72 golf course. The 7,115-yard, 200-acre course is one of the most prestigious and challenging in the Midwest. Designed by Robert Trent Jones II and constructed by Greenscape, Ltd., the course is accented by dramatic terrain variations and water, which comes into play on seven holes. Sand and grass bunkers have been strategically placed to enhance the golfing experience. The fully irrigated course features A1/A4 Bent Grass greens and Zoysia fairways and tees, all maintained by a trained and certified staff.
All 18 holes are linked by a paved cart path, and cart tunnels accented with stonework have been constructed to eliminate grade crossing on the entrance road. Job Requirements: The golf course First Assistant Superintendent will report directly to the golf course Superintendent. Under the Superintendent’s supervision, the First Assistant Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; other related work as required. The First Assistant Superintendent will serve in the Superintendent’s capacity during his/her absence. Key responsibilities for the successful management of the golf course maintenance operation include, but are not limited to:
• Understands the game of golf and the desired playing conditions for special events, membership, and PGA Tour Events. • Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways to maintain and improve turf and plan material health. Assists in the management of golf course and grounds maintenance and turf grass conditions. Experience with A1/A4 Bent Grass and Zoysia is highly desired in the midwestern transitional zone environment. • Oversees the Grounds staff: schedules daily work; supervises employees and the use of the equipment; ensures staff is working within OSHA, state and federal guidelines as well as adhering to Club safety standards. • Assists in personnel management development, evaluation, and discipline by working closely with the Superintendent to ensure employees are working safely and according to club policies. • Oversees the employee training program and required certifications. • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment. Ensures equipment is properly maintained by golf course mechanic. • Supervises herbicide, fungicide, fertilizer, and pesticide applications and/or operates application equipment. • Calibrates application equipment to desired specifications. • Participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps. • Supervises and participates in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and recordkeeping as required by local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Maintains records associated with the grounds & greens maintenance operation. • Serves as Safety Officer for the grounds crew, attends monthly safety meetings and shares relevant information with the staff. Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge of computer skills to include Microsoft Office programs, irrigation systems, email and internet. • Administers and enforces all Club rules, regulations and policies for staff. • Exercise excellent communication, presentation, organization, listening, and leadership skills in both oral and written form. • Ability to work independently and be a self-starting problem solver. • Progressively responsible experience in golf course maintenance or related field. • Proficient knowledge of rules of golf, etiquette, and methods of play. • Proficient knowledge of tools and equipment used in golf maintenance and grounds keeping practices. • Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees. • Characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials. • Drainage control methods, and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls. • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment. • Maintain effective employee and public relations.
